This study focusses on the vibration transmission and energy flow characteristics of low dimensional models dynamical systems with Coulomb friction. The Karnopp friction model smooth are employed to estimate dry force. steady-state responses system determined by harmonic balance (HB) approximations numerical continuations a time-marching method. level dissipation within assessed force transmissibility power variables. For single degree-of-freedom oscillator system, in low- high-frequency ranges away from resonance, it is found that frictional contact can suppress response effectively dissipate vibrational energy. coupled existence at interface lead significant growth transfer force-excited subsystem secondary especially high excitation frequencies. interfacial also result large amount interface. studies show dynamic contacting subsystems be tailored adjusting properties contact. Design strategies developed using contacts for suppression minimizing or maximizing dissipation.
